High Spen: the park

Once a splendid Edwardian park, funded by a levy on the wages of the local miners, the area is now in the care of Gateshead Council and has steadily been allowed to deteriorate into its present condition. Here you can see what is left of the vandalised gate, and the once excellent bowling green. The surrounding hedges and fences, once very well cared for, are now damaged and untidy.
